This is not the typical southern plantation you saw on movies and TV show, the ones in the "North and South" or "Gone with the Wind". The start of the Middleton Place dated back to 1700s. With American's oldest landscaped gardens built 25 years before the Independence, the house museum tells the stories of generations of the family members, one of whom signed the Declaration of Independence, and the other signed the Ordinance of Secession of the South before the Civil War.
