On our boating outings on the Chobe River in Botswana, we often came across African fish eagles. It is found widely in sub-Saharan Africa and is It is the national bird of Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, often perching near rivers, lakes, and other waterbodies.. The African fish eagle is a large bird, weighing up to nearly 8 lbs in females and 5.5 lbs in males. Their wingspans are around 6.6 ft in males and 7.9 feet in females, making for an impressive vision in the sky! They look much like the bald eagle with a mostly brown body and a white head. The face is featherless and yellow. The hook-shaped beak is yellow with a black tip.
