Description
The grapes on the vines over my home's entry always ripen at different rates. It's hard to wait for each whole bunch of grapes to be fully ripened before starting to eat them off. But the colors as they go from yellow-green to deep reddish purple are a fun subject to paint as each shape has its own gradients of color creating a field of bubbling delight, glowing in the sunshine.
For the past year I've been painting flowers and plant life up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. Enlarged, they become almost abstractions from nature without seeing the outer shape or the environment around them. I call these paintings Floralscapes.
I was honored to be the gold medal winning poster artist for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in 2016 with my watercolor painting of a tulip bouquet.
In 2012 I qualified to be a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS). This is earned by being juried into a select number of local chapter and international watercolor society shows sponsored by NWWS. The initials now follow my signature on recent watercolor paintings.
